CCPAS Key People

Simon Bass BA (Hons), CQSW is CEO at CCPAS. He has worked in various capacities for the organisation since he joined in 1997, before being appointed Chief Executive in August 2010.  He provides many different types of training and has over the years had a significant role in developing CCPAS’s safeguarding policy and good practice guidelines. Simon is particularly interested in the safe use of the internet, and has advised government and other organisations in this area. His background is in local authority social work and in lecturing.  

David Pearson CQSW, DMS is founder and Director of CCPAS and was former CEO. Together with Pauline, he has led its successful ‘Facing the Unthinkable’ seminars for the past 20 years. David has been involved in child protection for more than 40 years and regularly contributes to TV and radio programmes on the subject. He has worked as a senior Social Services Manager and as a court-appointed Children’s Guardian; he has also provided independent advice to courts, lawyers, social services and families on child protection issues and as an adviser to government ministers. He also gave evidence to Lord Laming’s Inquiry into the death of Victoria Climbie.

Pauline Pearson SRN, Dip Counsis a Trainer and member of our helpline team. She originally qualified as a nurse and worked with adolescents in a residential capacity for 13 years.  She has extensive experience of direct work with children and adults who have been abused and is a qualified counsellor.

Robert (Bob) Pull Cert Ed, PCET, Cert Theol is Communities Consultant with CCPAS having joined in September 2006. He previously served in the Metropolitan Police for 30 years, latterly as Detective Inspector in the Child Abuse Investigation Command as operational lead for Project Violet. This provided child safeguarding training, advice and support for African Diaspora communities in the UK.  He has developed broad links with faith communities in London, working extensively with Black Majority and Black led churches. Bob has received police training in advanced facilitation and child abuse investigation. He was also trained for the ministry at Spurgeon's College.

Bill Stone BA (Hons), CQSW, MA, MPhil is a Child Protection Consultant with CCPAS. He is a social work trainer, freelance consultant and a university lecturer. Bill previously worked for the NSPCC as a child protection officer, undertaking assessment and therapeutic work with young people. He has a particular interest in issues around parenting and child neglect and is author of a number of research articles on this subject. Bill writes for CCPAS and is also member of our helpline team. 

Andy Croall CQSW, AMDP is a Child Protection Consultant with CCPAS. He has a proven track record in counselling, training and freelance consultancy. He is known to many through Kings Communications and Care for the Family as well as CCPAS.  Andy was previously Deputy Director of Social Services for a large county and Chair of an Area Child Protection Committee. He is consultant to a number of statutory, voluntary and church agencies, has also taught extensively on team building, counselling and family relationships and is a member of our helpline team.

Claudia Bell BA (Hons), Dip SW is a Safeguarding and Policy Advisor with CCPAS, having joined the team in 2010.  She has long experience as a social worker and manager, having worked in a busy London Borough child protection team and for a leading independent fostering agency. She has an extensive background in working with children who have complex needs resulting from abuse. 

Justin Humphreys BSc (Hons), PgCSM, Dip CPP, FCMI is a Safeguarding and Policy Advisor with CCPAS, having joined the team in 2010.  He has over 17 years experience in Children’s Services in both the public and voluntary sectors. Most recently he was Head of Quality & Performance Management at Walsall Council and Lead Consultant at Action for Children. He is a qualified counsellor and has trained in management consultancy at the National School of Government. Justin specialises in Safer Recruitment, and was responsible for the development of the ‘Recruiting Safely’ guidance and national training programme for the Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC). 

Dr Iain Taylor BA (Hons), MRes, PhD is Head of Communications at CCPAS, having previously been Head of Media at the Evangelical Alliance and Head of Communications at the Institute of Actuaries. He has many years experience in devising and implementing proactive and reactive media campaigns in a variety of charity, business and financial contexts; he has also spent many years running his own public relations business.

Christine Morris is Finance Manager within CCPAS and has worked within the Finance Department since 2000.  She has overall responsibility for CCPAS financial management and control and in that role oversees allocation of budgets, reviewing financial performance, managing external financing, and reporting to stakeholders.

Steve Ball is CCPAS’s Business Manager. After developing a successful music school business, Steve joined CCPAS in the late ‘90s to improve and upgrade its IT systems.  Since then his role has expanded substantially, so he is now responsible for running head office and managing the entire IT function. He also designs and (where necessary) sources print for CCPAS’s many on- and off-line publications and masterminds many special projects.

Barbara Ball is Disclosure Manager at CCPAS. With 15 years experience in banking and 20 years as a church youth and children’s worker, Barbara joined   CCPAS in 2002. She established our disclosure service, which is now processing around 35,000 CRB checks per year; her work involves regular meetings with the CRB and other government departments. Her experience has given her an exceptional understanding of both the safeguarding needs of organisations at ground-level and how the CRB’s exacting requirements may be met most effectively.  Most recently, Barbara has very successfully developed our systems and guidance to arrange a smooth transition to the new-style online CRB checking system.
