CCPAS WARMLY WELCOMES GOVERNMENT’S TIMELY AND SENSIBLE REVIEW OF CHILD PROTECTION IN ENGLAND
The Churches’ Child Protection Advisory Service (CCPAS) today warmly welcomed the Government’s forthcoming review of child protection, announced by Children’s Minister Tim Loughton today.
David Pearson, Executive Director of CCPAS, commented: “I have spent the last forty years working with children in various positions within the statutory and voluntary sectors. During that time, I have witnessed the steady erosion of core social work skills. Now, increasing emphasis is being placed on bureaucracy and paperwork. The consequence is that less and less time is spent doing the one-to-one quality work directly with children and families that is so important.
“I therefore warmly welcome this timely and sensible review, for key reasons. They are:
For placing children at the heart of the task
for emphasising the need to re-skill social workers
for focusing on adequately supporting those workers at the sharp end, who are delivering essential front line services to the most vulnerable members of our society
for recognising and re-evaluating the important role voluntary organisations play in supporting children and families”
