CCPAS AND SALTMINE “DE-BUNK THE NONSENSE” OF CHILD PROTECTION IN ITS OUT OF THE BOX ROADSHOWS –COMING SOON TO A TOWN NEAR YOU
The Churches' Child Protection Advisory Service (CCPAS), one of the UK's leading experts in advising and training Christian and secular organisations in child protection practices, is linking up with Saltmine and Red Balloon Theatre Company to present Out of the Box – a new and innovative approach to safeguarding children.
The series of 11 road-shows for children's and youth workers will tour the UK next month, starting in Walsall on 8 October and finishing in Luton on October 20. All performances begin at 7.30pm.
The evenings of humorous, light hearted entertainment, taking the form of a TV chat show and hosted by “Paul” and “Fran”, has a serious intention - to de-bunk the nonsense and encouraging good sense in child protection. Examples of nonsense include stopping children playing conkers in the school playground, or forbidding a worker from having any physical contact with a young person whilst sidelining many of the far more dangerous threats children face – like physical, emotional and sexual abuse and via the internet
The tour features first class entertainment that moves instantly from the sublime to the ridiculous, but which is always underpinned by an important child protection message. It is essential watching for all those working with children and young people in any capacity. At the end of each performance David Pearson, Executive Director of CCPAS, will lead a discussion on the issues involved and feedback the views of participants to the Department of Children, Schools and Families as part of the government's consultation process on their recently published ‘Saying Safe' draft guidance.
David Pearson, says: “Our aim is to equip those working with children and young people so that they feel confident and valued in their role and at the same time ensure that children receive appropriate protection'.
