NEW CCPAS CHILD PROTECTION DVD PACK HIGHLIGHTS BEST PRACTICE IN AFRICAN CHURCHES

"other churches may learn useful lessons from their approach" - CCPAS

The Churches' Child Protection Advisory Service (CCPAS) has featured some of the best child protection practices in African churches in its new 'Facing the Unthinkable' Child Protection DVD Training Pack.

Based on the previous highly successful video workpack of the same name, this updated and expanded version is a complete child protection training course presented by Executive Director David Pearson and his wife Pauline.

The DVD focuses on raising the awareness of abuse issues, responding to concerns and - using a number of carefully reconstructed scenarios - developing safe working practice. There area also several in-depth specialist tracks covering areas such as:

Contributors include child care professionals such as social workers and police officers together with a parent, a foster carer, survivors of abuse and church leaders.

One of the many strengths of this inter-active training course is its user-friendly flexibility. It has been specially designed so that tailor made-courses of anything between 4 and 15 hours can be run, over several sessions if required. The pack includes Powerpoint slides, trainers' notes, a participants workbook, and the CCPAS child protection manual 'Guidance to Churches'.

Because these are regularly updated and available for downloading from the CCPAS website, the course will never be out of date! Anyone purchasing the pack will also be entitled to free CCPAS membership for a year as well as access to all the CCPAS support services.

This innovative training resource, the only one of its kind, will enable any church or organisation provide comprehensive training to its leaders, workers and helpers and ensure they can work safely with children and young people. The aim is that this will be achieved without losing the human touch or lessening the creativity and one to one contacts that are so important in successful children' work.

Executive Director David Pearson said: "The new DVD brings together not only the very best of the previous video workpack, but also the live seminars we have conducted over many years, and much more. Although many churches and organisations are now adopting child protection policies and safe working practice, there are still far too many who are complacent about child protection issues.

"The publication of this training pack means that there really are no excuses left for ignorance - or for children not to be properly safeguarded and protected.

"We also feel strongly that African churches have been wrongly vilified in some places over the past year on child protection issues. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth.

"In our experience, African pastors attach the utmost importance to protecting children - so much so that we have for the first time included some of the areas where other churches may learn useful lessons from their approach."
