METROPOLITAN POLICE IN NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH CCPAS TO MAKE CHILDREN 'SAFE & SECURE'
The Churches' Child Protection Advisory Service (CCPAS) has teamed up with the Metropolitan Police to ensure the well being of children within the church community.
In partnership with the Met's Project Violet, CCPAS has produced a new 12 page booklet called Safe & Secure. Funded by the police, this keynote document shows church leaders exactly what to do if they believe a child's safety may be at stake.
Safe & Secure sets out exactly what abuse is, gives guidelines on praying for children, lists signs of possible abuse and shows how best to respond to concerns or allegations.
15,000 copies have been produced for distribution to churches to encourage the adoption of child safeguarding policies and procedures. it is also available in a French translation. Bulk copies will be sent to all London borough councils and Children Services departments.
CCPAS is also undertaking extensive child protection training for some African church leaders. 150 volunteer pastors have already signed up for a training programme that begins later this month.
Detective Inspector Bob Pull of the Metropolitan Police and Christian minister in training said: " We must do all we can to prevent the abuse of children. The Child Abuse Investigation Command have funded this important new partnership initiative with CCPAS because we recognise that there are some new and emerging churches that need to adopt policies and practices that safeguard children. The booklet will be helpful to churches and other places of worship, in London and across the UK".
