CCPAS BACKS UKCCIS SUMMIT TO KEEP CHILDREN SAFE ONLINE
The Churches Child Protection Advisory Service (CCPAS), one of the UK’s leading experts in advising and training Christian and secular organisations in child protection practices is backing the UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS) Summit on 14 June.
CCPAS, which is a member of UKCCIS, will join a host of mobile phone companies, social networking providers, children’s charities and Government Ministers all showing their commitment to help children stay safe online.
Simon Bass, CEO of CCPAS commented: “We are partners of the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) and we fully support efforts to make churches up and down the country as safe as they possibly can be for the children in their care.
“Sadly, an area which is all too often overlooked is online protection. This is why we are attending the summit and giving our full backing to what is an exceptionally important event”.
There are many sources of information and advice for parents and children about internet safety but it is still the case that some children seem unaware of the risks – data from Ofcom* suggests that, of children who use the internet at home, 22% of 12 -15s say that they would be happy to give out their email address online.
Summit keynote addresses will be given by Bill Thompson, technology critic and commentator on digital culture, and Professor Tanya Byron, clinical psychologist, whose original review led to the creation of UKCCIS in 2008.
Organisations which offer internet services used by children are urged to find out more about the event, and about the work of UKCCIS at: www.education.gov.uk/ukccis.
