Facing the Unthinkable

 

 

 

 

'Facing the Unthinkable' is a comprehensive child protection distance learning course presented by David and Pauline Pearson. As well as instruction in the essential areas, there are several in-depth sessions (specialist tracks) on topics covered within the basic training, plus group tasks and exercises. The pack has been specially designed for flexibility so that tailor-made courses of anything between four and fifteen hours can be run over a number of evenings or days or at an individual's pace. The DVD includes PowerPoint slides and the approximate running time is 7 hours. The pack comes with facilitator’s notes, participants’ handbook and the CCPAS manual 'Guidance to Churches', with regularly updated versions available for downloading from the CCPAS website. Unlimited follow up support is available from CCPAS by phone or email. Certificates are awarded to those who successfuly complete the course and a written test.

The Facing the Unthinkable child protection training DVD is also available in a version suitable for non-church based organisations and groups. The workpack includes trainer’s notes and handbook and the non-church version of the CCPAS manual ‘Safeguarding Children and Young People’.

Special Children Special Needs

A distance learning course to equip churches respond appropriately to children with disabilities and special needs in practical and inclusive ways. Sessions include how to make church welcoming, advice on specific disabilities/special needs, briefing on the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act and the filming of a church that has taken a 'hands-on' approach to tackling the issues. Contributors include CCPAS Social Work Manager, Simon Bass and 'Through the Roof' Director, Paul Dicken. Approximately five hours of DVD material. Unlimited follow up support is available from CCPAS by phone or email.A certificate is awarded to those who successfuly complete the course and written test.

The Supervision and Pastoral Care of Offenders

With the growing recognition that many sex offenders attend church, this distance learning programme examines issues related to sex offending and includes understanding patterns of sex offending behaviour, risk assessment and written contracts, and the treatment, pastoral care and support of sex offenders in a church setting. Contributors include Donald Findlater (Lucy Faithfull Foundation), David Pearson (CCPAS Executive Director), Andy Croall (counsellor) and other CCPAS personnel. Approximately five hours of DVD material. Unlimited follow up support is available from CCPAS by phone or email. A certificate is awarded to those who successfuly complete the course and written test.

Sharing the Load

A pastoral care distance learning pack that will enable churches and organisations offer help and support to all those affected by abuse. The DVD includes effective models for recovery as well as the personal testimony of an adult survivor, partners, parents and a young person who recount their experiences from their own very different perspectives. Contributors include David Pearson (CCPAS Executive Director) and professional counsellors Pauline Pearson and Dot and Andy Croall. Approximately five hours of DVD material. Unlimited follow up support is available from CCPAS by phone or email. A certificate is awarded to those who successfuly complete the course and written test.
